NEW HOPE IN TREATMENT OF OPIOID DEPENDENCE

Advanced research has now brought about the next generation of the anti-addiction drugs in the form of BUPRENORPHINE which combines in one drug, a partial agonist and antagonist.

Since Buprenorphine is a partial agonist there is a ceiling of dosage. It means that respiratory depression, a major toxic effect of agonist is minimal and therefore death resulting from overdose involving Buprenorphine alone is highly unlikely.

Also it produces only a low level of euphoria and dependence. It has sufficient agonist activity to be re-enforcing and to sustain treatment acceptance by drug abusers.

Unique, partial opioid agonist - antagonist

Ceiling on the magnitude of opiate effects

Rarely causes respiratory depression

Mild abstinence syndrome

Low addiction potential

Greater safety margines

Hence offers high acceptability & retention during treatment

BUPRENORPHINE has been available in France since early 1996 under the Brand name “SUBUTEX” of Reckit & Colman.

In India,
RUSAN PHARMA LTD., is the only company permitted to supply BUPRENORPHINE sub-lingual tablets to recognised de-addiction centers, under the brand name “ADDNOK”. This Medicine is being promoted only through the de-addiction centers and hospitals, so that the treatment is carried out under strict supervision of trained NGOs and doctors. It is important to emphasize that ADDNOK is an integral part of a well-structured rehabilitation programme to make the full treatment a success.

Rusan’s products are of international standard. The raw material and formulation of Buprenorphine 0.4mg have completed bio-equivalence studies complying with strict European norms. In a continuing search for better forms of therapy Rusan is currently developing new drug delivery forms of Buprenorphine, like transdermal patch and oral spray, Buprenorphine in combination with Naloxone.
