TREATMENT OF OPIOID ADDICTION
Until recently the drugs available for the treatment of addiction were –
METHADONE
Although these drugs are effective for successful detoxification, they are by no means ideal. Buprenorphine has stood tall amongst the existent Substitution Therapies. Buprenorphine is available in France since early 1996 under the brand name of Subutex (0.4mg.2mg,8mg) of Reckitte & Coleman. Reckitte & Coleman has given exclusive worldwide marketing rights to Schering -Plough for Buprenorphine Products, excluding Japan, Taiwan and Korea. Buprenorphine is already cleared in the U.K. And U.S. FDA approval is soon expected.Buprenorphine superceeds the current de-addiction therapies.
