Dr V D Patil

Research & Development department of Rusan Pharma Ltd. Is headed by Dr VD Patil, who completed his Master's degree in organic chemistry from University of Pune in 1968 and was a merit holder there.

He joined natural Product Division of National Chemical Laboratory (Pune) for Ph.D. and completed his doctorate in 1972 on "chemistry of commiphora mulkul" (Guggul) a plant being used extensively in "Ayurveda" for variety of ailments. Since 1972 he has been associated with Research & Development Department of various companies such as Rallis India Ltd, Searle India Ltd, Camphore and Allied Products Ltd and Bombay Drugs & Pharmas Ltd (BDPL) in various capacities including being Director on board of BDPL.

During his career spanning more than 3 decades he has acquired immense expertise and experience in all areas of process development like design, development, optimization, documentation and transfer of technology on the commercial scale. He has also been responsible for analytical method development, quality assurance as well as dossier preparation (DMF/ COS) of R&D products.

His process development and custom synthesis interest includes API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), pesticides, perfury chemical, flavouring agents, specialty and performance chemicals involving large variety involving basic synthesis of natural origin like alkaloids, steroids, terpenes as well as synthetic origin like aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic derivatives. He holds four Indian patents and has published five papers in international journals.

He has to his credit several successful custom synthesis projects sponsored by European and US companies including MNC's.
